My favourite art supplies, and recommendations!

As an artist I get countless questions regarding my favourite art supplies, what I would recommend for beginners and where I get my materials from. I am always happy to help when it comes to art supplies, as I love inspiring people to create art work - and I'm super excited to announce that I can finally help a little bit more.

The three most important supplies to consider when painting is the paint (obviously), brushes, and paper. None of these materials are more important than the other, and it is important to have a full collection of high quality products to achieve the best painting overall.

Paint:

I get questions all the time asking how I achieve thick, opaque, smooth paint that glides effortlessly onto the paper, and the answer is gouache! My all time favourite brand of gouache is Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache.

Paint Brushes:

It is essential to have a handful of good quality paint brushes, that will last for a long time - provided you take good care of them. It also helps to have a range of brush sizes in your collection, when working at different scales. I have listed below my favourite brushes and brands for you!

Paper:

Over the years I have tested out many different brands of paper for painting with gouache, and I always gravitate back to the Bockingford Traditional Watercolour Paper. It is 300gsm so the paper won't bubble under your paint, and provides a lovely smooth (although slightly textured) white surface to paint on!
